USC Upstate Closes out Fall Season at Georgia Southern Championships

Statesboro, Ga. - The USC Upstate men's tennis team wrapped up their fall schedule last weekend, Nov. 2-4, at the Georgia Southern Championships hosted by Georgia Southern at the Wallis Tennis Center.

USC Upstate had seven players competing in the tournament in Ankush Arora, Fernando Bernardes, Luka Eble, Francisco Neto, Lucas Percy, Tom Russwurm and Samuel Schiano.

In doubles play, the combinations consisted of Arora/Percy, Bernardes/Eble and Neto/Russwurm. Arora/Percy advanced to the semifinals to lead the Spartans after securing wins over Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. Bernardes/Eble won their first match versus SCAD-Savannah.

Arora, Neto and Bernardes all competed in the Flight A singles bracket. In the Flight B singles bracket, Eble picked up two wins in the consolation round against SCAD-Savannah and Florida Tech to advance to the finals.

Schiano and Russwurm both participated in the Flight C singles bracket. Schiano won in the first round against Matthew Kastritis of SCAD-Savannah while Russwurm had a bye. After losing in the second round, they faced each other in the Flight C consolation 2 bracket, with Russwurm winning in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.

USC Upstate opens its spring season on Jan. 21, 2019 at Coastal Carolina.
