USC Upstate Opens Fall Season at Davidson Invitational

Davidson, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team began its fall season this weekend at the Davidson Invitational and recorded a total of 17 victories during the two-day tournament held at the Davidson Tennis Courts.

USC Upstate competed in two singles and one doubles match on Saturday, and two doubles and one singles on Sunday.

The invitational was a points system, with points being determined based on position. The No. 1 singles position was worth 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which is worth two points. The top doubles spot was worth eight points, then going down to No. 4, which was worth two.

Throughout the weekend, the Spartans faced three opponents in Davidson, Queens and Appalachian State. USC Upstate combined for 10 wins on Saturday and seven on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Spartans received singles wins from Ankush Arora, Fernando Bernardes, Francisco Neto, Lucas Percy, Tom Russwurm and Samuel Schiano. Neto/Luka Eble and Percy/Schiano both collected doubles wins on the opening day.

USC Upstate saw four players collect singles wins on Sunday in Eble, Arora, Bernardes and Percy. Arora/Bernardes and Eble/Neto each had doubles victories.

The Spartans are back in action this weekend, Oct. 5-7, at the Mercer Gridiron Classic in Macon, Ga.
