Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team concludes its regular season this week with a pair of ASUN Conference matches, one home and one away, against the Lipscomb Bisons and Kennesaw State Owls.
USC Upstate begins the week on Thursday morning traveling to Lipscomb for an 11 a.m. EST match and follows with its regular season finale on Saturday evening hosting Kennesaw State at 6 p.m. on Senior Night. The Spartans will honor Felix Ewers and Ignacio Garrido prior to Saturday's match.
USC Upstate traveled to the state of Florida last week for two matches at Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast. The Spartans closed out their non-conference schedule with a 7-0 loss to Florida Atlantic before falling at Florida Gulf Coast 6-1. Ewers compiled one singles win and combined with Luka Eble for a doubles victory.
Francisco Neto and Fernando Bernardes both lead USC Upstate in singles play this season with seven wins apiece as Neto plays primarily at No. 2 and Bernardes No. 3. The No. 3 doubles combination of Ewers and Eble have a team-best 10-7 record this year.
Lipscomb currently sits at 6-11 on the season and 1-3 in conference play after falling 5-2 at Stetson on Sunday. Victor Chaw leads the Bisons in singles play with a 12-4 record at No. 2 and has teamed up with Alejandro Manzanares in doubles competition for a 10-3 record at No. 1. Lipscomb is under the direction of first-year head coach Geoff Hernandez.
Kennesaw State is 7-9 this year and 1-3 in the league after dropping back-to-back 5-2 decisions last week at Stetson and North Florida. The Owls are led in singles play by Fermin Calvo Barcelo at No. 1 with a 12-4 record. In doubles competition, Drew Lahey and Bryan Triana are 10-3 highlighted by six wins at No. 3. Kennesaw State is led by third-year director of tennis Eduardo Rincon.
