Ewers Collects Singles Win, USC Upstate Falls at Florida Gulf Coast

Fort Myers, Fla. – Felix Ewers recorded one singles win and combined for a doubles victory as the USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision in conference play to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Saturday evening from the FGCU Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate falls to 5-17 on the season and 0-4 in conference play while Florida Gulf Coast improves to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in the league.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead over the Spartans after capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. USC Upstate collected one doubles victory as the No. 3 combination of Ewers and Luka Eble picked up a 6-4 win over Felipe Escobar and Austin Bates.

Florida Gulf Coast captured five of the six singles matches to earn the 6-1 victory. Ewers came back for a win in his No. 1 match defeating Felipe Ramirez in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. Fernando Bernardes also sent his No. 4 match against Marcelo Tebet into the third set but would fall 6-4, 3-6, 8-10.
