Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team sent four singles matches into the third set on Saturday afternoon but the Spartans would drop a 6-1 conference decision to the North Florida Ospreys from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate falls to 3-15 on the season and 0-3 in conference play while North Florida improves to 9-8 overall and 4-0 in the league.

The Ospreys jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Spartans picking up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Luka Eble and Felix Ewers were leading their No. 3 match over Alberto De Meo and Nilo Duarte 5-3 but would go unfinished.

USC Upstate sent three other singles matches into the third set, all reaching tiebreaker points, with Ankush Arora at No. 4, Eble at No. 5 and Ignacio Garrido at No. 6. Arora reached two tiebreakers in his No. 4 match with Till Von Winning but would fall 4-6, 7-6(10), 6-7(2). Eble and Garrido both sent their third set into a tiebreaker with Eble reaching the fifth point and Garrido the sixth. Eble dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) decision to Duarte while Garrido fell 6-4, 6-7, 6-7(6) to Joe Ellis.

"First off, Coach Trittenwein and I would just like to convey how proud we are of the way the guys competed today. It doesn't get any closer than a match coming down to three separate tiebreaks in the third set all within ten minutes of each other. The score does not at all indicate how tight everything was, and we were literally just a couple of points away from winning that match 4-3, but that's how our sport goes sometimes. If we can duplicate the level of fight we had today going forward, we're going to really enjoy the rest of this season. Go Spartans!" – Tim McLane, assistant coach

The Spartans remain at home on Monday, April 2 hosting Coastal Carolina (2 p.m.) and Limestone (6 p.m.) in a doubleheader.
