Spartanburg, S.C. – Felix Ewers and Ankush Arora both recorded singles wins on Thursday afternoon as the USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 home decision in conference play to the Stetson Hatters from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

USC Upstate falls to 3-14 on the season and 0-2 in conference play while Stetson improves to 13-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.

The Hatters took the doubles point for a 1-0 lead after winning at No. 2 and No. 3. In the No. 1 doubles match, the combination of Ignacio Garrido and Lucas Percy were tied 6-6 with Linus Bergevi and Colter DeCoste before going unfinished.

The Spartans captured two singles wins, both in straight sets, from Ewers at No. 1 and Arora at No. 4. Ewers earned USC Upstate's first win after defeating Malik Bhatnagar 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 match. Arora followed at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Antoine Sanchez.

Percy also sent his No. 6 singles match against Bergevi into the third set but would fall 6-3, 2-6, 4-6.

"Stetson is a really good team, but that being said, I thought we left a couple of points on the court today that cost us the match. All through the doubles and singles matches we put ourselves in good positions, but the next step in our evolution as a team is being able to take advantage of opportunities the first time they appear. I fully expect us to come out against UNF ready to rumble and get a win." – Tim McLane, assistant coach

The Spartans continue their four-match homestand on Saturday afternoon hosting North Florida at 2 p.m.
