Statesboro, Ga. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Georgia Southern Sunday in non-conference action from the Hanner Tennis Complex.
Georgia Southern grabbed an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, beginning with an 8-5 win for Albert Codina Sala and Nico de Groof over Rajanvir Dharni and Viktor Selander at No. 2. Jose Landin Lopez and Christian Kerrigan clinched the point when they bested Matt Bennion and Ignacio Garrido 8-5 at No. 3.
Lopez put the Eagles ahead 2-0 when he defeated Felix Ewers 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles, while Kerrigan extended the lead to 3-0 following his 7-6, 6-4 victory over Bennion at No. 5.
Ristomatti Lanne sealed the win for Georgia Southern by defeating Ramon Simonetti 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 1.
Upstate returns to action Thursday at 3 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Lipscomb.
