SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team is set to cap the home portion of its schedule this weekend, welcoming Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb to town for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches.
The Spartans (6-10, 0-4 A-Sun) will play host to Northern Kentucky Friday at 2 p.m., followed by Lipscomb Saturday at 2 p.m. Friday's match against the Norse will serve as Senior Day, with Upstate honoring lone senior Jacob Darling before the contest.
- The Spartans enter the weekend having lost three straight matches and four consecutive A-Sun contests. Upstate will look to turn that around this weekend against the Norse and Bisons.
- Since earning a national ranking two weeks ago, Matthias Kidler has continued to play the best tennis of his collegiate career, capturing seven consecutive singles matches at the top spot in the lineup and do so in convincing fashion. In his current seven-match winning streak, Kidler has only been forced to a third set one time, that coming against Elon's 26th-ranked Cameron Silverman.
- Northern Kentucky enters weekend play at 3-13 overall and 0-5 in league play. The Norse will be looking to snap a six-game skid and earn their first A-Sun victory in program history.
- Lipscomb has suddenly found themselves as one of the hottest teams in the league after winning four straight matches and improving to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Bisons traveled to the state of Georgia last weekend and earned a 6-1 victory over Kennesaw State and 4-0 win over Mercer.
Last Time Out: The USC Upstate men's tennis team continued to struggle away from home last Saturday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Stetson University at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
Next Time Out: Following a pair of home matches, Upstate will cap the regular season with back-to-back matches in the Peach State next weekend, traveling to Kennesaw State Friday and Mercer Saturday.
