Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker at No. 72 Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – The USC Upstate men's tennis team came up just short in its upset bid of No. 72 Tulane as the Green Wave claimed a 4-3 victory at the Goldring Tennis Center.

Tulane (6-4) claimed the doubles point after picking up victories at all three doubles matches.

The Spartans (4-4) were able to tie the match at one when Yvon Haessig defeated Adam Bernstein, 6-1, 6-0, at singles No. 4.  Tulane was able to regain the lead when Shave Wali defeated Tyler Grove at singles No. 3 (6-0, 6-2).

Gonzalo Blanco claimed a straight-set victory over Rodrigo Rappaccioli at singles No. 5.  Blanco's 6-2, 6-3 win tied the match at 2-2.

Tulane again went in front as Takuma Ohashi defeated Pierre Vernin, 6-2, 6-0, at singles No. 6.

Senior Ramiro Blanco was able to claim victory at singles No. 2 as the Spartans again tied the match, this time at 3-all.  Blanco defeated Joe Young, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) to increase his singles win streak to seven.

In the decisive singles match, Matthias Kidler fell just short as he dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to Idan Mark at singles No. 1.

The Spartans will look to bounce back when they battle Nicholls State Tuesday in Thibodaux, La.
