Men’s Soccer Preview:  at Mercer

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team remains in non-conference play on Tuesday evening traveling to Macon, Ga. to face the Mercer Bears at 7 p.m. from Betts Stadium.

USC Upstate continued its three-game stretch against non-conference opponents on Saturday evening falling 5-1 at Coastal Carolina. Cam Philpot scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season and led the Spartans offensively with four shots. Jaedon Williamson dished out his team-leading second assist. Andrea Bonavia concluded the game with six saves.

Philpot leads USC Upstate offensively this season with eight points on four goals. Williamson and Francis Eto have each contributed two assists. In goal, Bonavia has made 45 saves.

Mercer enters the matchup with a 7-2-2 overall record after defeating VMI 2-0 last Saturday. Trevor Martineau leads the team offensively with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Leo Toledo Jr. and Roberto Arteaga have both dished out six assists. In goal, JR DeRose has 39 saves and a 0.96 GAA. The Bears are under the direction of 11th-year head coach Brad Ruzzo.

The Spartans are back at County University Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 13 to host the Presbyterian College Blue Hose in Big South action at 7 p.m.
