Men’s Soccer Preview:  at Gardner-Webb

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team remains in conference play on Wednesday evening making the short trip to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

USC Upstate (1-2, 1-1 Big South) is playing its third conference game of the season after coming off a loss in its home opener on Sept. 4 to Campbell. Joel Bunting scored his first goal of the season while Erik Espinoza dished out his first assist. Andrea Bonavia grabbed a season-high four saves.

Espinoza and Bunting lead the Spartans offensively this season with three points on one goal and one assist. Bonavia has made five saves while CJ Cluck has a 3.00 GAA.

Gardner-Webb is 0-4-1 this season with tie against Wofford while falling to James Madison, Virginia Tech, Mercer and George Mason. Seven different players have scored one goal while Edin Hernandez leads the team with four points on two assists and one goal. Grant Glorioso has 28 saves and a 2.70 GAA. The Runnin' Bulldogs are under the direction of 31st-year head coach Tony Setzer.

USC Upstate and Gardner-Webb are meeting for the 14th time in program history with the Spartans holding a 6-5-2 lead in the all-time series.

The Spartans travel to Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday, Sept. 15 to face Winthrop at 7 p.m.
