USC Upstate Voted Ninth in Big South Preseason Men’s Soccer Poll

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team has been picked to finish in ninth place according to the league's head coaches as the Big South announced its annual Preseason Men's Soccer Poll today.

USC Upstate tallied a total of 21 points in the preseason poll for the ninth place projection. The Spartans return a total of 14 letterwinners from last year's team highlighted by five starters in CJ Cluck, Joel Bunting, Cam Philpot, Michelangelo Dovidio and Matt Capozzoli. USC Upstate also welcomes in 17 newcomers.

Defending conference regular season champion High Point is favored to win the league in 2018 after receiving seven first-place votes and 76 total points. Radford follows in second place with 69 points while Campbell is third with one first-place vote and 62 points. Defending conference tournament champion Presbyterian College collected 54 points to finish fourth in the voting.

Gardner-Webb landed in the fifth position with 36 points and sits just ahead of sixth-place Winthrop who tallied 33 points. UNC Asheville and Longwood tied for the seventh spot with 27 points each, with the Bulldogs receiving the final first-place vote.

In addition, the coaches voted Radford redshirt-senior forward Kiernan Roberts and Campbell senior forward JJ Donnelly the Preseason Co-Attacking Players of the Year, while High Point senior defender Rashid Tetteh was tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honoree.

The Spartans begin their season with a pair of exhibition matches starting on Sunday, August 12 at College of Charleston before hosting Louisburg College on Friday, August 17. USC Upstate starts its regular season on Friday, August 24 traveling to N.C. State for a 7 p.m. contest against the Wolfpack.
