Upstate Begins Road Trip Saturday at Jacksonville

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team kicks off a three-game road trip Saturday evening when it travels to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the Jacksonville Dolphins at 7 p.m. from Southern Oak Stadium.

Following Saturday night's contest against Jacksonville, Upstate will then travel to N.C. State (Oct. 10) and Gardner-Webb (Oct. 17).

The Spartans are back in action for the first time since falling at home to Stetson 2-0 on Sept. 30. Upstate led 7-6 in corner kicks while also holding a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Cam Philpot attempted a team-high three shots while five different players registered one attempt on goal. Goalie CJ Cluck concluded the match with two saves.

Philpot leads the Spartans this season with five points on two goals and one assist while Calon Minors has dished out a team-leading two assists. Cluck has contributed six saves this year.

Upstate is tied for first in the ASUN this season with 67 corner kicks.

Jacksonville currently sits at 2-7 on the season and is 0-1 in conference play. The Dolphins are led offensively by Kai Bennett and Igor Ferreira with four points each. Bennett has one goal and two assists this season while Ferreira adds a team-leading two goals. In goal, Patrick Harding has grabbed 35 saves and compiled a 1.59 goals against average. Jacksonville is under the direction of fifth-year head coach Mauricio Ruiz.

The Spartans and Dolphins are meeting for the 14th time in program history with Jacksonville holding an 8-5 lead in the all-time series. Upstate has won each of the last four meetings including a 1-0 victory last season in Spartanburg.
