USC Upstate Set to Compete at Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team is scheduled to play in its second tournament this week as the Spartans travel to Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. to compete in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular hosted by George Mason at the par 72, 6834-yard Mission Inn Golf Resort.

The Mission Inn Spring Spectacular is a 54-hole tournament played over the course of two days, with 36 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Tee times for both days are slated for 8:30 a.m.

USC Upstate is one of 14 teams competing in the tournament along with George Mason, Indiana, Lehigh, Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic, Bethune-Cookman, TCU, Princeton (A), Princeton (B), Murray State, Presbyterian College, Toledo and Hofstra.

The Spartans are sending out a five-player lineup consisting of Jordan Warnock, Reid Bedell, Matt Carter, Hunter Fry and Sean Stanistreet. Sam Merrell and Sun Paripunna will be competing as individuals.

USC Upstate began its week on Monday with a tie for 12th place performance at the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Ga. Warnock was the top performer for the Spartans finishing tied for 20th after shooting a 148 (75-73). He also led the team in par 3 scoring (+1, 3.13 stroke average), par 5 scoring (-4, 4.50 stroke average), pars (20) and birdies (6). He also tied with Bedell at one eagle each as USC Upstate finished the tournament third in that category.

The Spartans make the short trip to Travelers Rest on March 23-25 for the Furman Intercollegiate hosted by Furman at the Furman Golf Club.
