Men’s Basketball Preview:  at VMI

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team continues non-conference play on Wednesday evening as it travels to Lexington, Va. to take on the VMI Keydets at 7 p.m. from Cameron Hall.

The Spartans (1-1) picked up their first win of the season last Saturday defeating Brevard 86-43. Malik Moore became the 24th member of USC Upstate's 1,000 point club, joining teammate Deion Holmes. Moore finished with a game-high 20 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and 8-of-9 at the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds and five assists. Nevin Zink, Everette Hammond and Thomas Booker all had 14 points. Zink led all players with eight rebounds while Hammond had three steals. 

Moore leads the Spartans this season averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Hammond has compiled 2.5 steals per game while Ryan Ross contributes a team-leading 1.5 blocks per contest.

VMI (2-1) is coming off of a 98-34 victory against Goucher College on Sunday. Bubba Parham leads the Keydets in scoring with 19.3 points per game while Greg Parham dishes out 5.3 assists per game. Tyler Creammer leads the team in rebounds with 8.7 per game. VMI is under the direction of third-year head coach Dan Earl. 

USC Upstate is facing the Keydets for the first time in program history.

The Spartans travel to Portland, Ore. Nov. 21-24 to participate in the Classic at Portland against Portland, Texas State and Cal Poly.
