Men’s Basketball Preview:  Brevard

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team will play its first home game of the season on Saturday afternoon hosting the Brevard College Tornados at 4 p.m. from Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center.

The Spartans (0-1) fell to South Carolina 65-52 in their season opener on Tuesday evening. Malik Moore led USC Upstate on both sides of the ball registering a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting, and 6-for-8 at the free throw line, to go with three assists. Everette Hammond hit three 3-pointers to finish with 13 points and seven rebounds in his first collegiate game. Dalvin White had a team-high four assists. The Spartans hit seven 3-pointers while holding South Carolina to 0-for-18 behind the arc.

Brevard finished last season with a 4-18 overall record and begins its 2018-19 campaign tonight at Toccoa Falls. The Tornados are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Lee Burgess.

USC Upstate and Brevard are meeting for the third time in program history with the all-time series tied at 1-1. The Spartans defeated the Tornados in the last matchup, 78-54, on Dec. 6, 2007.
