Ramel Thompkins Selected to Participate in Inaugural 3X3U National Championship

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate's Ramel Thompkins has been selected to participate in the inaugural 3X3U National Championship. This ground-breaking new event will put 32 four-man teams consisting of players from every Division I college basketball conference against each other in a three day, 3-on-3 tournament. These teams, comprised of seniors who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, will compete live on Twitter and ESPN2 from Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 1, 2018 at St. Mary's University's Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas. Thompkins is one of four players selected from the ASUN to participate.

Thompkins will be joined on the ASUN Conference squad by Brandon Goodwin of Florida Gulf Coast, Nick Masterson of Kennesaw State and Divine Myles of Stetson.

Thompkins, a 6-7 forward from Vidalia, Ga. played in all 32 games this season for the Spartans and led the team with 31 starts. Averaging just over 31 minutes per game, he was third on the team in scoring averaging a career-high 10.8 points per game and ranked second with 5.8 rebounds per contest. Thompkins also averaged 13.0 points per game against ASUN opponents. He finished the season shooting over 40 percent from the field. Thompkins scored a career-high 26 points this year against Charleston Southern.

He concluded his four-year career at USC Upstate appearing in 94 games and made 59 starts. Thompkins averaged 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, and was a 41.4 percent shooter from the field.

The 3X3U National Championship will begin on Friday, March 30 with 24 pool play games streamed live on Twitter (@3X3UHoops) from 7 p.m.-12:30 a.m. EST and will continue on Saturday, March 31 with another 24 pool play games streamed live on Twitter from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. EST. The event will conclude on Sunday, April 1 with the quarterfinals broadcast live on Twitter from 1:35 p.m.-3 p.m. EST, and the semifinals, third-place game and championship game broadcast live on ESPN2 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. EST.

Each roster will be comprised of four eligible seniors from the same Division I college basketball conference. Teams will be organized into eight pools of four and each team will be guaranteed three pool play games.
