USC Upstate Hosts NJIT in Regular Season Finale

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team wraps up its regular season on Thursday evening hosting the NJIT Highlanders at 7 p.m. from Eddie and Ann Payne Arena in the G.B. Hodge Center.

USC Upstate will be holding its Senior Night festivities on Thursday and is honoring Jacob Schulte, Carson Smith and Ramel Thompkins in a pregame ceremony.

The Spartans closed out the road portion of their schedule last week dropping two games at North Florida and Jacksonville. USC Upstate had four players average in double-figures offensively led by Deion Holmes with 27.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Thompkins added 15.0 points per game, Mike Cunningham 12.5 and Thomas Booker 11.0. Holmes scored over 25 points in both games highlighted by 28 at Jacksonville on Feb. 17 while pulling down eight rebounds against North Florida on Feb. 15.

Holmes is currently one of four players averaging 10.0 or more points per game this season with a team-leading 15.8 per contest. Malik Moore contributes 13.8 points, Cunningham 13.3 and Thompkins 10.6. Defensively, Moore is leading the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. Jure Span is one of the best ball distributors in the conference averaging 4.2 assists per game.

NJIT enters the contest with a 13-15 overall record and 6-7 mark in conference play. The Highlanders are led offensively by Anthony Tarke with 15.8 points per game while Abdul Lewis is averaging a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game on defense. NJIT is under the direction of second-year head coach Brian Kennedy.

The Spartans and Highlanders are meeting for the sixth time in program history with USC Upstate holding a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.
