GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive week the USC Upstate baseball game walks away with one run victory over North Carolina A&T, tonight the Spartans defeated the Aggies 2-1 at War Memorial Stadium.
With the victory the Spartans have now won two consecutive games and have improved to 16-17 on the season. Meanwhile, N.C. A&T falls to 18-15 on the 2019 season.
Top 3rd: Davis Wilber worked a full count walk to lead-off the top of the third inning. Jeff Taylor then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Wilber into scoring position for the Spartans. Andres Kim came through with an RBI triple to score the first run of the game for either side. J.J. Shimko then came through with an RBI knock to give the Spartans their second run of the inning.
Bottom 3rd: The Spartans hit the first two batters of the inning and Jason King singled in a run with one out in the inning.
- Andres Kim led the offense with his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
- Ben Ferrer began the game and throw 4.0 innings of 3 hit baseball against the Aggies. The right hander allowed just one run to cross the plate.
- Caleb Matthews picked up the win on the mound after throwing 4.0 innings of shutout baseball. Jacob Thiessen picked up the save, no hitting the Aggies in the bottom of the ninth.
- The USC Upstate baseball team returns home this weekend for a three game series against the Presbyterian Blue Hose. First pitch for Friday night's game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
