Spartanburg, S.C. – The Jacksonville Dolphins scored two runs in the 11th inning as they claimed a 5-3 victory over USC Upstate in an ASUN Conference contest at Harley Park on Friday night.

Jacksonville improves to 32-17 overall and 9-6 in the ASUN while USC Upstate drops to 23-25-1 and 5-11.

Scoring Breakdown

  • Top 5th – Chris Lehane was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Lehane stole second before he stole third and scored on an errant throw.
  • Bottom 6thKyle Gensler started a two-out rally with a bunt single. Toran Shahidi followed with a single as Gensler advanced to third. Gensler tied the game on a Russell Schwertfeger base hit with Shahidi reaching third on the play. Austin Morgan's single gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead, with Schwertfeger scoring on a wild pitch.
  • Top 7th – The Dolphins scored a run on a sacrifice fly.
  • Top 8th – Sam Armstrong tied the game at 3 with a leadoff home run.
  • Top 11th – Ruben Someillan reached on a double and advanced to third on an error with one out. Someillan scored the go-ahead run on a Lehane single. Lehane scored on a sacrifice fly.


  • Schwertfeger went 3-for-4 with three singles, a run scored and an RBI.
  • Shahidi went 2-for-4 with two singles.
  • Morgan went 1-for-4 with a single and RBI.
  • Gensler, Will Hardigree and Andres Kim each had a single.
  • Lehane and Someillan each had three hits to lead the Dolphins.
  • USC Upstate left 11 runners on base while Jacksonville stranded 10 baserunners.
  • Chris Mauloni (3-1) earned the win as he allowed two hits with seven strikeouts in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
  • Will Wheeler (2-2) took the loss after he allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with a strikeout in 1.0 innings.
  • Jacob Thiessen allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a season-high 6.1 innings.
  • Jacksonville starter Chris Gau allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
