Spartans to Host Quakers in Weekend Series

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will face off against the Penn Quakers for the first time in school history this weekend in a three-game series at Harley Park. The series begins at 4 p.m. Friday followed by a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday and the finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

USC Upstate is 6-6-1 following a 7-3 win at Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Will Hardigree had a career-high four hits as the Spartans plated five runs in the final three innings for the victory.

Senior catcher Charlie Carpenter was named the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday after batting .600 in four games last week. In Friday night's game, Carpenter tied a career-high with five hits as he went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three singles, two RBI and three runs scored. In Saturday's contest, Carpenter went 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI.

Penn is 1-7 following a pair of midweek losses to Furman. This weekend's series concludes an eight-game visit to South Carolina as the Quakers were swept last weekend at Wofford. Penn's lone victory was an 8-5 triumph over Northwestern State (La.) on Feb. 24.
