Spartans Close Out February against Presbyterian College, North Carolina A&T

Spartanburg, S.C. – After playing the first eight games of the season at the friendly confines of Cleveland S. Harley Park, USC Upstate will make its first road trip of the season on Tuesday afternoon as the Spartans travel to Presbyterian College for a 2 p.m. start. The Spartans will then close out the month at home against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

USC Upstate is 3-4-1 following a pair of losses on Saturday. The Spartans defeated Seton Hall on Friday night before falling 3-1 to Pittsburgh on Saturday morning and 7-1 to Xavier on Saturday night in a game that was moved due to the threat of rain. In Friday's game, senior pitcher Blake Whitney tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in 7.0 scoreless innings.

Presbyterian College is 3-6 following a 9-2 win at Wofford on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Hose have two wins over La Salle with losses coming against La Salle, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh and Xavier.

North Carolina A&T is 3-6 after a win over Lehigh on Sunday. The Aggies have two wins over Lehigh and one against Coppin State with losses to Coppin State, NC State and Lehigh.

The Spartans lead the all-time series with Presbyterian College 20-19 after sweeping the season series last year. Upstate rallied from a 4-0 deficit at home on March 22 and earned a 6-5 10-inning win on May 3.

Wednesday will be the eighth all-time meeting and first since 2012 between USC Upstate and North Carolina A&T with Upstate holding a 5-2 series lead. The Spartans are 4-0 at Harley Park against the Aggies.
