Cross Country Preview:  at NCAA Southeast Regional

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country team will make the short trip to Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday morning to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by Winthrop at the Winthrop Farm.

The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and the men's race follows at 12 p.m. 

On the men's side, the Spartans are sending Brandon Burt, Andrew Castano, Jacob Coccia, Jared Coccia, Jonathan Johnson, Logan Miller, Michael Tardella and Marlin Young.  The women are sending Marcy Bradshaw, Alicia Chavez, Stecy Cherono, Mia Davis, Allie Leavitt, Joey Palmquist, Krysta Pierstorff and Shamia Thompson

USC Upstate returns to the course for the first time since Oct. 26 at the Big South Cross Country Championship, in which both the men's and women's teams finished in fifth place. Pierstorff and Johnson posted career-best finishes to lead the Spartans individually. Pierstorff finished one spot away from All-Conference honors after concluding the race in 13th place with a team-best time of 19:07.2. Johnson collected an 18th place performance to lead the men's team following a time of 27:29.1. The women posted a 5K average time of 20:24 while the men turned in an average 8K time of 27:29.5.
