Coccia, Pierstorff Named to Big South Cross Country All-Academic Teams

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate cross country student-athletes Jacob Coccia and Krysta Pierstorff have both been named to the Big South Cross Country All-Academic Teams as voted on by the league's sports information directors.

Coccia has competed in all five events this season for USC Upstate and compiled two top-20 finishes. He recorded a season-best finish of 18th place at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational following a time of 26:30.89. Coccia also crossed the finish line in 19th place at the season-opening Eye Opener Invitational with a time of 27:40.2. He recorded a season-best time of 26:09 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge. Coccia has a 3.454 grade-point average and is majoring in nursing.

Pierstorff has collected the top individual finish for the Spartans in all five events this year. She recorded a season-best finish of 13th place recently at the Big South Cross Country Championship with a time of 19:07.2. Pierstorff also finished 17th at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. She posted a season-best time of 18:55 during the Royals Cross Country Challenge. Pierstorff has a 3.350 grade-point average and is a nursing major.
