Cross Country Preview:  Eye Opener Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country teams will begin their 2018 season on Friday evening as it hosts the 35th running of the Eye Opener Invitational at Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg.

The Eye Opener begins at 6:30 p.m. with the women's 5K race followed by the men's 8K at 7:10 p.m.

USC Upstate is one of nine teams competing in the Eye Opener along with Converse (women), Furman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone, Morehouse (men), Newberry, Presbyterian College, Western Carolina and Wofford.

The men's and women's teams were both picked to finish in eight place according to the league's head coaches in the Big South Preseason Cross Country Polls. The men collected 53 points while the women earned 49.

The Spartans return 12 runners from last year as both teams welcome back six student-athletes. The men have a total of 10 newcomers this season while the women have five.

USC Upstate heads to Rock Hill, S.C. on Saturday, Sept. 15 for the Winthrop Invitational at 9 a.m.
