Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country team will run four of their six meets during the 2018 season in the Palmetto State as head coach Carson Blackwelder announced the team's schedule today.
"We are excited for the upcoming season," Blackwelder stated. "Moving to the Big South will create opportunities to race/compete against conference competition on a regular basis. We will see more Big South opponents this year giving us new areas to focus on."
The Spartans open the season by hosting the 35th running of the Eye Opener Invitational on Friday, August 31. The men's team finished in second place while the women's team finished in third place in 2017. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with the men's race following shortly after.
Following a weekend off, the Spartans will venture to Winthrop on September 15 for the Winthrop Invitational. In 2017, the men's team finished in second place while the women's team scored a fourth place finish, just two points shy of a runner-up result.
USC Upstate will host its second home meet of the season, the Upstate Invitational, on September 29. The women's race will start at 9 a.m. followed by the men at 9:30 a.m.
The first of two consecutive meets in the Tar Heel State opens USC Upstate's October schedule as the Spartans travel to Charlotte and the Queens Invite on October 12. The Spartans will return to North Carolina for the Big South Championship hosted by High Point on a date to be determined.
The 2018 NCAA Southeast Regional will be held in Rock Hill, S.C. at Winthrop on Friday, Nov. 9, marking the first time the meet has been held in the state of South Carolina.
