Jones Named to ASUN All-Academic Team

LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate junior student-athlete Dorian Jones was named to the 2017 ASUN Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team, conference officials announced on Thursday.

Jones claimed a spot on the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year and is the only repeat honoree on this year's team.

"Dorian is an excellent example of what a student-athlete should be," head coach Carson Blackwelder stated.

A History Education major with a 3.56 GPA, the West Columbia, S.C. native was the top finishing Upstate runner at every meet this season. Jones recorded a new personal-best time of 25:19.50 at the Pirate Invitational on Oct. 13. Jones' time is the fifth-fastest 8k time in school history.

Lipscomb's Jacob Poyner was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's events.

Upstate will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional tomorrow. The women's race begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men's race at 11:30 a.m.
