LakePoint, Ga. – The USC Upstate men's and women's cross country teams have been picked to finish in fourth and seventh places, respectively, as the ASUN Conference announced the Cross Country Preseason Polls this afternoon.
The men's team earned 37 points as they were picked to finish in fourth for the second consecutive season. The Spartans finished in fourth place in the ASUN in 2016 behind Second-Team All-Conference performances by Dorian Jones and Theodore Kountourogiannis. Jones finished in eighth place and will enter the season as Upstate's top runner. The men's team returns seven runners with two newcomers.
The women's team earned 19 points as they were selected to finish in seventh place. Upstate finished in seventh place at the 2016 ASUN Championships. The Spartans welcome four newcomers along with eight returnees.
Lipscomb was chosen to win both the men's and women's championships.
Upstate opens the season on Friday as it hosts the Eye Opener Invitational from the Milliken Research Center at 6:30 p.m.
