MACON, Ga. – Senior Jemeli Sang of the USC Upstate women's cross country team was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Runner of the Week as announced by the conference office today.
Sang's first A-Sun Runner of the Week honor comes after the senior won her first collegiate cross country race at the Clemson Invitational Sept. 16. She posted a school record in the women's 6K with a time of 20:42.88, beating 113 other competitors from then-No. 6 Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and others. Sang and the other women ran a 6K at the Clemson meet instead of the usual 5K.
"The Clemson Invitational was a really good race for Jemeli," said Upstate's interim-head cross country coach Carson Blackwelder. "The 6K plays to her strengths and with it being her first collegiate victory, it's great to see her get a conference weekly award for that."
