SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team is back in action this weekend at the Don McGarey Invitational in Kennesaw, Ga.

On Friday afternoon and evening the field athletes will be the primary events of the day, starting with the men's long jump event at 3:00 p.m. Elam Pearson is currently sitting in eighth place in the conference standings with a season high jump of 6.82 meters. Ari Jahanfar and Benjamin Bapoupeleh will be looking to move up as well with a weekend to go before the Big South Championships.

The Men's hammer throw at 3:00 p.m. is highlighted by sophomore Tony Auguste and senior Bryson Hatten. Auguste currently sits in fourth place in the Big South standings with a throw of 50.65 meters. Hatten is eighth in the conference with a throw of 46.17 meters.

Mikenzie Young-Mullins sits just outside the top-ten in the women's Javelin with a throw of 24.29 meters. The freshman will look to improve on that mark this weekend heading into the Big South Championships. Senior Kayln Brown will participate in the women's discus event at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening, Brown is eighth in the Big South with a throw of 38.51 meters.

Two-time Big South Athlete of the Week Adanma Uzor highlights the women's long jump event on Friday evening. Going into the final regular season weekend of competition Uzor sits in second place in the Big South behind Hampton's Jaelan Leonard.

Last weekend Jaquille Mosley broke into the top-five of the Big South in the Javelin event. Mosley hurled the javelin 46.18 meters last weekend placing him third on the school's all-time list.

Friday night's activities conclude with the men's discus event and men's 3,000 meter steeple chase. Last weekend distance runner Jonathan Johnson ran the second fastest steeple chase time in school history with a time of 46.96 seconds.

Saturday afternoon's events will begin with the 4x100 meter relay events. The women's team comprised of Cox, Bryant, J. Brown and Kinard currently rank third in the Big South. Last weekend the quartet ran a 46.96 relay at the Duke Invitational and they are currently just six tenths of a second behind Radford for second place. The men's 4x100 meter relay team is just inside the top-five of the Big South standings.

At 1:00 p.m. the 100 meter and 110 meter hurdle events will begin. Freshman Brittany Cox has had a quiet rookie season, she currently ranks ninth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds. In the 110 meter hurdle event a trio of Spartans are right in the middle of the pack, Tanner Saunders (14.86 seconds), Cameron Smith (14.88 seconds) and Lonnie Morton (14.97 seconds).

The 100 meter races will take place about an hour later with Angelnique Bryant highlighting a talented field of runners. Bryant currently leads the Big South with an 11.67 100 meter dash time. Antonie Nance, Jared Henderson and Javin Holston all sit inside the top-10 of the conference standings in the men's 100 meter dash.

In the 400 meter hurdles race Tanner Saunders and Lonnie Morton will to improve on their top times heading into the Outdoor Championships next weekend. Saunders currently ranks second with a time of 53.28 seconds and Morton ranks fourth in the conference with a time of 55.07 seconds.

Tony Auguste and Kayln Brown will highlight the Spartans in the shot put event on Saturday afternoon. Uzor, Young-Mullins, Jahanfar and Bapoupeleh will all compete in the triple jump events. Uzor leads the conference in the triple jump event with a mark of 12.23 meters.
