LYNCHBURG, Va. – The USC Upstate men's and women's track and field team had a very productive weekend finishing in fifth and sixth place respectively at the Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships.


Sophomore jumper Adanma Uzor (Mauldin, S.C.) took home Female Field Athlete of the Meet after she won the triple jump competition with a leap of 12.05 meters. The Palmetto State native also finished second in the long jump with a pounce of 5.76 meters.

Angelnique Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) continued on her very successful freshman campaign. This weekend, Bryant took home Big South Freshman of the Year honors after she won the 60 meter dash competition. Bryant's preliminary time of 7.54 seconds ranks her 10th All-Time in Big South history and 2nd All-Time in USC Upstate history.

Thrower Kalyn Brown (Farmington Hills, Mich.) finished the meet with a pair of top-five finishes in the weight throw and shot put events. Brown's weight throw of 16.00 meters set a new USC Upstate record.

Jumpers Dejaionne Kinard and Mikenzie Young-Mullins (Duncan, S.C.) also had top-ten finishes in the competiton. Kinard finished fifth in the Long Jump event with a leap of 5.36 meters. Young-Mullins finished in eighth place in the triple jump and ninth in the long jump event.

The men's DMR team of Michael Tardella (Cumming, Ga.), Jalin Petty (Charlotte, N.C.), Elam Pearson (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Dorian Jones (West Columbia, S.C.) finished in third place after recording the third best time in USC Upstate history.  

Senior Tanner Saunders (Pickens, S.C.) had a pair of top-five finishes in the 400 meter dash and the 60 meter hurdles event. Saunders time of 49.04 seconds in the 400 meter dash placed him third overall in the event and he was the only sprinter not from Hampton to make it into the top-five of the event.

The men's 4x400 relay team comprised of Saunders, Petty, Pearson and Lonnie Morton finished in fourth place at the conference championships.

Javin Holston finished in sixth place in the 60 meter dash, while fellow sprinters Morton and Cameron Smith each clocked in top-ten finishes in the 60 meter hurdles event. Distance runner Dorian Jones finished seventh in the mile run.

Jumper Ari Jahanfar finished eighth in the triple jump and thrower Tony Augusta had a pair of top-ten finishes in the weight throw and shot put.

  • The USC Upstate Track and Field teams are making the switch to outdoor season and their first meet will be in Charlotte, N.C. March 15-16.
