SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team is making their debut at the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lynchburg, Va., this Friday and Saturday.
This will be the Spartans second trip to Lynchburg this season, the squad participated in the Liberty Kickoff on January 25-26. Over the two day meet the Spartans had five student athletes finish in the top-ten of their respective events and the 4x800 relay team set a new school record.
USC Upstate seems to be peaking at the right time of the season. Former Big South Freshman of the Week Angelnique Bryant was named the Buccaneer Invitational Women's Track Athlete of the Meet after she won the 60 meter dash event. Another Spartan to look for this weekend is former Women's Field Athlete of the Week Adanma Uzor (Mauldin, S.C.). The sophomore jumper had a pair of top-five finishes at the Gamecock Inaugural earlier this season.
On the men's side of the event a few Spartans to look at are track athletes Jared Henderson, Tanner Saunders and Dorian Jones. All-three have set new personal records and school records over the course of the season. In the field one athlete to watch is sophomore thrower Tony Augusta who has finished in the top-ten of every event during the indoor season.
The Big South Championships will begin with the women's long jump competition at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Saturday's events will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the women's weight throw and conclude with men's 4x400 finals at 4:50 p.m. A full listing of all the events can be found at the links below.
