USC Upstate Picked Fifth, Sixth in Big South Indoor Track & Field Preseason Poll

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's indoor track & field teams have been projected to finish in fifth and sixth places, respectively, as the Big South Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Preseason Polls on Thursday afternoon.

The USC Upstate men were picked fifth with a total of 18 points while the women are sixth with 31 points.

Campbell has been voted as the favorite on the men's side for 2018-19 after garnering 48 points and six first-place votes. Hampton follows in second place with one first-place vote and 38 points. Charleston Southern and High Point sit in front of the Spartans in third and fourth places, respectively, with 37 and 31 points. Winthrop (6th, 14 points) and UNC Asheville (7th, 10 points) round out the men's preseason poll.

High Point is the preseason favorite on the women's side with two first-place votes and 72 points. A total of one point separates Campbell and Hampton in second and third place. Campbell picked up three first-place votes for 68 points while Hampton received four first-place votes and 67 points. Charleston Southern and Radford are fourth and fifth, respectively, with 57 and 48 points. UNC Asheville follows USC Upstate in seventh place with 24 points. Gardner-Webb (8th place, 20 points) and Winthrop (9th place, 18 points) conclude the women's preseason poll.

The Spartans begin their 2018-19 indoor season on Saturday at the JDL College Kick Off Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. The 2019 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship is slated for Feb. 15-16 at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.
