Spartanburg, S.C. – Four members of the USC Upstate track & field teams will look to continue their impressive seasons this weekend as they compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship in Tampa, Fla.

Sarah Hill will compete in the women's 100-meter dash, while Kennedy Holton will run in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Tanner Saunders and Noah Walker will compete in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

Saunders and Walker will get things started as the first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles kicks off running events for the weekend at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hill will run in the women's 100-meter dash first round later that day at 2:55 p.m. On Friday, Holton will run in the 100-meter hurdles with a scheduled start time of 12:30 p.m.

"This will be a great meet for our athletes," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "The four athletes we have competing have always risen to the occasion, we saw that at the ASUN Championships."

Hill won the women's 100-meter dash at the ASUN Championships with a new school record time of 11.49.

Holton was the runner-up in the women's 100-meter hurdles at the ASUN Championships with a school-record time of 13.54.

Saunders qualified for the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.55 as he recorded a third place result at the ASUN Championships.

Walker lowered the men's 400-meter hurdles school record from 52.10 to 51.71 with a runner-up finish in the event.

Blackwelder has high hopes for all four of his student-athletes this weekend.

"I would not be surprised to see them make it through to the quarterfinals. It is all about who shows up ready to compete. The rankings don't mean anything at this point."

The quarterfinals for women's 100-meter dash are scheduled for Friday at 2:15 p.m. with the men's 400-meter quarterfinals slated for 3 p.m. Friday. The women's 100-meter hurdles quarterfinals are scheduled for 1:50 p.m. on Saturday.
