Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field teams will compete in the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va.
In five meets this season the Spartans have set five new school records with freshmen each posting the new record. Terry Newell set the men's 60-meter dash record with Antoine Nance lowering the men's 200-meter school record. Newell has broken the 60-meter dash record three times this season while Nance has lowered the 200-meter dash record twice. The Spartans have also seen strong performances in the 60-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash.
Sarah Hill has had an outstanding indoor season and is the new school record holder in the women's 200-meter dash and has the second-fastest time in program history in the women's 60-meter dash. Hill was also named the ASUN Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 13.
The other two school records have come in field events. Ari Jahanfar set the school record in the men's long jump at the season-opening UNCG Early Bird Dual. Adanma Uzor is the new school record holder in the women's triple jump.
Dorian Jones earned the win in the men's mile at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 20 and has had several top-five finishes in the mile and 800-meter run.
Tony Auguste was named the ASUN Men's Field Athlete of the Week on January 31 and has multiple throws over 13 meters in the shot put. Auguste's throw of 18.70 meters in the weight throw at the UNCG Early Bird is the second-best in program history.
The meet begins on Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the women's pentathlon and concludes at 6:40 p.m. with the men's distance medley relay. Saturday's activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the men's heptathlon before the meet concludes at 4 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meer relay at 4 p.m.
