Upstate Back in Action Sunday at Aggie Last Chance

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team returns to competition for the first time in three weeks on Sunday as it travels to Greensboro, N.C. for the Aggie Last Chance hosted by North Carolina A&T.

The meet starts at 9 a.m. with three field events in the javelin throw, long jump and discus throw. The track events are slated to start at 12 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.

Upstate last competed at the Charlotte Invitational Apr. 18-19 and walked away with five 1st-place finishes while breaking one school record. The Spartan women finished with three top performances and the men two. On the women's side, Upstate had 1st place finishes by Brittany Walls in the heptathlon, Dominique Nock in the 100-meter dash and Alexis Jacobs in the shot put. The men's 4x100-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay teams both finished 1st in their respective events. Essence Jackson also set a new school record in the 800-meter run, surpassing the previous mark set last season by Anastasia Kolesnitchenko.

The Spartans recorded 20 top-5 finishes at the Charlotte Invitational including the five 1st-place performances. The women posted 11 finishes inside the top 5 and the men tallied nine.

Upstate wraps up its season next weekend, May 16-17, when it heads to Jacksonville, Fla. for the 2014 A-Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
