Upstate Wraps Up Competition at Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. – The USC Upstate track and field team closed the book on this weekend's Raleigh Relays with one top-10 finish and three personal-bests Saturday at the Paul H. Derr Track.

Michael Smith led the Spartans with a 6th place finish in the triple jump invitational as he posted a mark of 14.48-meters (47-06.35), which also earned him 1st place honors in Flight 1. He picks up his second top-10 finish of the season in the triple jump after walking away with a 5th place performance at the season-opening CCU Invitational.

Ronald Collins and Cameron Pratt each collected personal-best times on Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles. Collins turned in a time of 56.49 while Pratt posted a 57.65. Alex Love also had a personal-best time as he ran a 32:51.29 in Section C of the 10,000-meter run.

Matt Johnson added a 19th place finish in the 800-meter run invitational after posting a time of 1:54.91.

On the women's side, Janay Chisolm led Upstate individually with a 30th place finish in Section B of the 10,000-meter run with a time of 41:41.38. The women's 4x800-meter relay team of Essence Jackson, Molly Bliss, Nia Payne and Anastasia Kolesnitchenko came in 16th place following their time of 9:23.38.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday, Apr. 10 when they travel to Rock Hill for the Carolina Cup hosted by Winthrop University.
