Raleigh, N.C. – Joan Tangwar ran the second-fastest time of her career and Carolyne Chelulei and Jemeli Sang each turned in solid performances as USC Upstate's three Eldoret, Kenya runners competed in the Raleigh Relays Friday night.
Tangwar turned in a time of 17:43.71 and finished 10th in the Section II race of the 5k. It marked the second-fastest time of her career and good enough for a top 10 finish in a strong field.
"Joan ran a good race. None of the times were as fast as we would have liked, but we are working toward the conference meet next month and working to peak at the right time," said Upstate assistant coach Carson Blackwelder.
In addition to Tangwar, Sang also ran in the Section II race and finished with a time of 18:06.21. Chelulei ran in the Section I portion of the 5k meet and turned in a time of 18:04.93.
The full track & field team will participate in the Catamount Classic at Western Carolina Saturday.
