Morgan Childers Caddell is the seventh person affiliated with the softball program to be inducted into the USC Upstate Athletics Hall of Fame.
Caddell, a native of Kings Mountain, N.C., was a member of the softball team from 2008-11 as a pitcher.
Decorated arguably as the best Spartan pitcher of all-time, and one of the best in the ASUN Conference, Caddell is the only player in the history of Upstate Athletics to have her number retired. A three-time ASUN First Team All-Conference selection, she was selected as both the ASUN Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in 2008, while also earning All-Freshman Team accolades. Throughout her career, Caddell also received ASUN Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore in 2009 and was selected to the ASUN All-Tournament Team in 2010 and 2011.
She is the only player in ASUN history to have won both Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season, and is one of 10 players all-time to be named ASUN All-Conference all four years.
Caddell was also recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as a Second Team All-Region honoree in 2008 and 2011, and on the Academic All-District Team in both 2010 and 2011.
She was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week nine times throughout her four-year career and tossed six no-hitters. Caddell helped the Spartans make history during their first year in the ASUN by sharing the Regular Season Championship. As a junior in 2010, Upstate finished runner-up at the ASUN Tournament. A member of two 40-win teams, Caddell pitched eight innings or more in a game twice during her career.
Caddell’s name sits all throughout the Upstate record book from a career, season and game standpoint. She is the all-time leader at Upstate in career opponent batting average, strikeouts over a seven-inning game, wins, saves, appearances, games started, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts. She is also fourth all-time in career ERA at 1.32.
For a season, Caddell holds four of the top-10 pitching records for a season in opponent batting average, strikeouts over a seven-inning game, wins, appearances, games started, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts. She is the single-season record holder at Upstate in opponent batting average, appearances, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts. Caddell is tied for the most wins with 34 in 2010 and saves after compiling four in 2009. She also sits fifth in lowest ERA for a season at 1.01 in 2010.
Presently, Caddell holds the first eight spots in the Upstate record book for strikeouts in a game highlighted by a school record 17 against North Carolina A&T on March 21, 2010.
At the ASUN level, she is the all-time leader for wins in conference history at 113. Caddell is ranked in the top-10 for the league in career appearances, shutouts, strikeouts, innings pitched, complete games, games started, saves and earned run average.
