Champs/Life Skills

1. Commitment to Academic Excellence
To support the academic progress of the student-athlete toward intellectual development and graduation.

University 101 - The Academic Support Center offers a course for incoming freshmen entitled University 101 (SUNV 101: The Student in the University). This three hour elective course, which focuses solely on freshman success, will provide you with the tools and resources you need to make a smooth transition into college.

Tutoring provided through the Academic Support Center - Students needing tutorial assistance in their courses can sign up for free tutoring through the Academic Support Center.

Supplemental Instruction - Supplemental Instruction is a series of peer-led weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. SI is available for all students who want to enhance their understanding of course material and improve their grades.

First Year Information Literacy Program - Our Information Literacy Program with University 101, English 101 and English 102 is designed to give a firm foundation in the research process and the acquisition of basic research skills to first-year students. Students learn about information literacy concepts and develop research skills from their professors in class, from librarians in three dedicated library sessions, and from assignments on which classroom and library faculty collaborate. The goal is to focus on research as a process and to reinforce that process between the library and the classroom and across the three courses.

Besides these institutional programs above, student-athletes at USCUpstate may also take advantage of:

Study Hall as assigned by individual coaches

Library Orientation Sessions

Student-Athlete Orientation

Academic Advising in Athletics Department and campus wide

Travel Letters that are provided by each coach at the beginning of the season to each student-athlete to make professors aware of conflicts between a student-athlete's athletic schedule and class schedule

First Year Advisement Workshops
