Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team will close the book on its non-conference schedule Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. home contest against the Presbyterian College Blue Hose.
Upstate went 1-1 last week defeating Kennesaw State 3-0 on Oct. 22 before falling in three sets at East Tennessee State on Oct. 25. Kayla Eversgerd picked up her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs at ETSU.
The Spartans are riding a two-match unbeaten streak at home entering Tuesday night. Upstate has defeated its last two opponents, Mercer and Kennesaw State, by identical 3-0 scores.
Eversgerd leads the Spartans on offense and defense this season with 266 kills and 251 digs. Lexi Gober has a team-best 688 assists, 20 service aces and .266 hitting percentage. Emily Koelling is first on the team with 39 total blocks and second with 187 kills. Eversgerd is sixth in the conference in kills, Gober ranks ninth in assists and Morgan Page is sixth in digs per set.
The Blue Hose are under the direction of first-year head coach Korrinn Burgess. She is 24-31 all-time as a head coach. Burgess has ties to the Spartanburg area as she spent last season as the head coach at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Presbyterian College leads the all-time series over Upstate 8-3. The series dates back to the 2003 season where PC won the first match 3-2 in Clinton. The Spartans won both matches in 2006, and then in Spartanburg during the 2008 season. The two teams last met in 2011 when the Blue Hose won 3-1 at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Upstate hits the road for the final time this weekend as it travels to face Stetson (Nov. 1) and Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 2).
