Spartans Notch Three Double-Doubles Last Week
After going nearly a month without posting a double-double, Upstate posted three double-doubles last week. Emily Sanders started things off with 38 assists and 16 digs at North Florida (Oct. 15) before Sanders and Cori Harris both picked up double-doubles at Jacksonville (Oct. 16). Sanders tallied 43 assists and 17 digs, while Harris tallied 21 kills and 13 digs.
Solid In Home State
A native of Plantation, Fla., Morgan Thomas had a solid showing in her home state last week. She began the two-game Florida swing with a team-high 18 kills at North Florida (Oct. 15). She tallied seven kills and four assisted blocks at Jacksonville (Oct. 16). She averaged 12.5 kills and 2.5 blocks per match during the trip to the Sunshine state.
Has Big Night At Jacksonville
Freshman Cori Harris turned in a strong effort in Upstate's last match, finsihing with a match-high 21 kills and 13 digs at Jacksonville. It marked the seventh double-double of her career.
Approaching Third All-Time In Digs
Senior libero Megan Healey has been a strong defensive player since stepping onto the court at Upstate. She moved into fourth place all-time at Upstate in digs earlier this season and now has her sights set on third place. She currently owns 1,425 digs, just eight shy of third place, owned by Brittany Harry with 1,433.
Moving Up Assists List
Though just a sophomore, Emily Sanders has already moved into ninth place on Upstate's all-time assists list with 1,358. Her 7.15 assists per set average ranks fifth all-time at Upstate.
Emily Sanders has posted a double-double on assists and digs in 14 of the Spartans' 21 contests. Sanders biggest performance came on August 28, against Western Illinois when the sophomore put up 57 helpers and tallied 17 digs. Additionally, Cori Harris has found seven double-doubles and Mindy Quimby has a pair.
Carolina Central Notes
North Carolina Central enters Wednesday night's matchup at Upstate with a 6-20 overall record. The Eagles lost their last two matches after winning three-of-four. N.C. Central owns a .088 hitting percentage, while opponents hit at a .215 rate. The Eagles have 193 aces and 160 total blocks on the year.
Spotlight Player: Belinda
A senior outside hitter from Hamburg, Germany, Belinda Behncke-Biney has been the leader on the floor for N.C. Central this season. She leads the Eagles with 304 kills, 167 more than the next closest player on the team. She also tops the club with 35 aces and is second with 155 digs.
