Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision at Wofford Friday afternoon from the John E. Reeves Tennis Center.
Upstate grabbed the momentum early in the match when Isabel von Stryk and Sarah Vande Berg turned in a 6-2 doubles victory over Kalli Karas and Catherine Martin from the No. 2 position. Wofford, however, captured wins in the following two matches to win the doubles point and go up 1-0.
Julie Paulson put the Terriers ahead 2-0 following her 6-0, 6-3 victory over Anna Zoske at No. 3. Taylor Carlson upped the Wofford lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Lindsey Buenger at No. 6 before Karas clinched the match for the Terriers with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Vande Berg at No. 5.
Von Stryk closed the match on a high note for the Spartans when she defeated Audrey Coventry 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) from the No. 2 position.
Upstate returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans return home to host Presbyterian from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
