Upstate Ranked in Latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll

Spartanburg, S.C. – For the first time since 2014, the USC Upstate softball team is ranked nationally as the Spartans enter this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll tied for 25th entering NCAA Regional play on Friday afternoon.

Upstate received 37 points in the weekly poll and is tied for 25th with Ohio State, who it will face on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. to open play at the NCAA Knoxville Regional from Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Spartans, the No. 3 seed in the Knoxville Regional, captured their third straight ASUN Softball Championship, and fourth in the last five seasons, last weekend with an 8-0 five-inning victory over Florida Gulf Coast. Upstate became the first ASUN softball team to win three consecutive ASUN Championships since Florida Atlantic won eight-in-a-row from 1997-2004. The Spartans are making their fifth straight appearance in an NCAA Regional this weekend.

This season, Upstate concluded the regular season with a 14-4 conference record to win the ASUN Regular Season championship, while going 44-11 overall. The Spartans enter NCAA Tournament play on an eight-game winning streak and have won 14 of 16 dating back to April 8-9 with a three-game sweep of Florida Gulf Coast.

Upstate has won seven conference titles in the last five years and eight in ten seasons in the ASUN. The Spartans have won four Regular Season championships in 2008, 2014, 2015 and 2017, and four Tournament titles in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball Regions as well as members of the National and Local media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country.
