Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team will host its "Strikeout Cancer" event Saturday, March 22 when it plays host to Florida Gulf Coast in an A-Sun doubleheader at Cyrill Stadium.
Each year, the Upstate softball program hosts a cancer awareness/initiative day seeking to raise awareness and solicit donations in the battle against the deadly disease. The softball program will once again join in the with NFCA and the American Cancer Society for its theme, "Strikeout Cancer", with all proceeds of the event donated to the ACS' Spartanburg Relay for Life.
Upstate is pledging $1 per each ticket sold at the doubleheader to be donated to Relay for Life. There will also be a donation station for anyone wishing to donate more than the $1 collected at admission. In addition, there will be a ball toss contest between games of the doubleheader where individuals will purchase pink tennis balls with all proceeds donated to the cause.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. and donations will be accepted throughout the duration of the doubleheader.
