Spartanburg, S.C. – After leading Upstate to three of its four wins against A-Sun competition last week, Spartan hurler Anna Miller has been named the A-Sun Pitcher of the Week, announced the league Monday.
Miller, a senior from Portland, Ore., has now earned A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season. She previously earned the honor On Feb. 24 after tossing back-to-back no-hitters the previous week.
"We had really solid pitching last week against Stetson and North Florida and Anna led the way for us in that area," said Upstate head coach Chris Hawkins. "The effort she gave in the win at Stetson was tremendous and she was great in both wins against North Florida. She has really stepped up her performance and given us tremendous leadership as a senior."
Miller was simply outstanding in leading Upstate to a win at Stetson and two wins in back-to-back starts at North Florida last week. She began the week by tossing a one-hitter and striking out 10 in the complete game 2-0 shutout at Stetson on March 11. After taking the loss in the next game against the Hatters, she was dominant at North Florida. She again went the distance, allowing two hits and striking out 13 in the 4-1 victory over the Ospreys on March 15. She came back the next day in the series finale to go seven innings while allowing one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts to lead the Spartans to a 6-1 victory and the series sweep.
For the week, Miller was 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA. She struck out 37 batters in 23 innings of work and allowed just 12 hits.
