The Polls Are Open: Vote Now for the Top Division I Moments
In 2007-08, USC Upstate embarked on a new journey for its athletics program, transitioning its sports team from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. After four years of competing as a transitional member of Division I, Upstate is poised to receive full certification by the NCAA with all teams eligible for postseason play in NCAA and A-Sun championships.

Childers Notches First Professional Win with Racers
Spartanburg, S.C. – As a standout pitcher at USC Upstate, Morgan Childers dominated the competition nearly every time she stepped into the circle from the time she was a freshman through her senior season in 2011. In the midst of a strong senior year when she won 29 games, she was selected by the Akron Racers with the 14th overall pick of the 2011 NPF Draft this past March. On Sunday, she earned her first career victory, going 4 1/3 innings to earn the 3-2 win over the NPF Diamonds.

Spartanburg, S.C. – For a senior class that established the USC Upstate softball program on the Division I level, Thursday at the A-Sun Softball Championship was a heartbreaker. The same goes for the rest of the Spartans as Upstate dropped a 1-0 decision to second-seeded Lipscomb in its first game of the day and lost a 3-2 decision at the hands of fifth-seeded Mercer in an elimination game to end its season.

In all, the Athletics Department gave out 66 awards and made other special recognitions on the night.

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate pitcher Morgan Childers had a record-breaking day Saturday, earning her 109th career win to break the A-Sun’s all-time wins record and recorded her ninth career save in game two to break Upstate’s all-time saves record. The senior helped lead the Spartans to an important sweep of Mercer by scores of 3-1 and 5-2.

Kennesaw, Ga. – In an old rivalry between USC Upstate and Kennesaw State, seven innings was not enough in either game. After taking a 3-2 loss in nine innings in game one, Upstate had a runner on second with one out in the eighth inning and the score tied at 4-4 in game two when lightning and rain caused the game to be suspended. It will be completed Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at Bailey Park.

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate softball team hits the diamond Wednesday evening, renewing a young rivalry with South Carolina when the Gamecocks visit Cyrill Stadium for a 5:00 p.m. start. The game will be the second time that South Carolina will make the trip to Spartanburg, with Upstate taking a 5-0 victory over the Gamecocks last year at Cyrill Stadium. Spartanburg, S.C. – For the second-straight week, USC Upstate swept the A-Sun weekly softball awards as sophomore Ericka Harris was named the player of the week and senior hurler Morgan Childers was named pitcher of the week for their efforts in leading the Spartans to a 6-0 record last week.

Spartanburg, S.C. – Katie Zauner knocked a game-winning three-run homer to bring Upstate back from a 3-1 deficit as Upstate won the Upstate Classic at Cyrill Stadium with a perfect 4-0 record on the weekend. Sophomore catcher Ericka Harris was named the MVP after hitting .667 with five runs and three RBIs.

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate combined for 20 runs in two games to improve to 3-0 in the Upstate Classic softball tournament at Cyrill Stadium, taking a 13-1 win over Hampton and a 7-1 victory over George Mason Saturday afternoon. The Spartans improved to 9-0 on the season with the wins.

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate softball will be back in action when it plays host to the Upstate Classic this weekend at Cyrill Stadium. The Spartans will welcome George Mason and Hampton to Spartanburg. The tournament opens Friday when Upstate takes on George Mason at 3:00 with games on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Upstate Opens Season at Palmetto State Showdown
Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate softball team will open the 2011 season on the road at the Palmetto State Showdown for the second straight season, but this time the Spartans hope the winter weather will not be a factor. Last year, the Spartans played two games in the tournament before heavy snowfall canceled the second and third days of the tournament. Upstate will open the season Friday against Coastal Carolina at 5:00 p.m. with games against Charleston Southern (Saturday, 3:00 p.m.), Winthrop (Sunday, 3:00 p.m.) and South Carolina (Sunday, 5:00 p.m.) to follow.

Upstate Softball Ranked No. 3 In Nation In Team GPA
Spartanburg, S.C. – While the USC Upstate softball team was playing its way to a 41-win season and an appearance in the championship game of the A-Sun Tournament in 2010, it also excelled in the classroom. On Wednesday, the NFCA announced its selections to the NFCA Girls Got Game Top Ten All-Academic teams and Scholar Athletes, and Upstate ranked No. 3 in all of NCAA Division I softball with a 3.566 GPA and had 16 NFCA Scholar Athletes.

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate softball signee and incoming freshman Hannah Alexander turned in a standout season as a senior at North Davidson high school in Lexington, N.C. She added to a growing list of accomplishments by being named a Louisville Slugger High School All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
