Seven student-athletes have signed to play women's soccer at USC Upstate beginning in the fall, announced head coach Renee Lopez today. The seven signings now push Lopez's first recruiting class to 15 members.

Head women's soccer coach Renee Lopez has announced that Gabrielle Fennell has enrolled in classes this spring at USC Upstate. Fennell comes to Upstate after spending last fall as a member of the Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team.

After leading the turnaround of the women's soccer program both on the field and in the classroom at Lees-McRae College (Banner Elk, N.C.), Renee Lopez has been selected to do the same thing at USC Upstate as the nine-year coaching veteran has been hired as the Spartans' new head women's soccer coach, announced Director of Athletics Mike Hall today.

Playing in its final match of the 2009 season, the USC Upstate women's soccer team was downed on the road by Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 10-0. FGCU, like Upstate (0-19-0, 0-10-0 A-Sun), is not eligible for postseason play during the transition to Division I, so the Eagles (11-5-3, 6-2-2 A-Sun) season ended today as well.

The USC Upstate women's soccer team dropped its third one-goal match of 2009 in Friday night's 2-1 loss at Stetson. With the victory, Stetson improves to 9-6-2 overall with a 5-2-2 mark in the Atlantic Sun. Meanwhile, Upstate falls to 0-18-0 overall with a 0-9-0 mark in league play.
