DeLand, Fla. – Spartanburg native Brittany Lowe shot rounds of 77 and 79 to lead the Spartan cause as the USC Upstate women's golf team stands fifth after 36 holes and day one of the Hatter Classic Monday afternoon. Lowe is tied for eighth heading into Tuesday's final round.
The 54-hole tournament is being played at the Victoria Hills Golf Club. The course is the home venue of Stetson. The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
Upstate shot rounds of 323 and 322 and is fifth in the tournament with a 645 total. Daytona State shot back-to-back rounds of 301 and leads the tournament with a 602 total. Stetson "Green" is second at 604 and is followed by Bethune-Cookman (630), Florida Atlantic (642), Upstate (645) and Stetson (683).
Lowe opened the tournament with a 77 in the first round, then shot a 79 in the afternoon round to end the day as the top Spartan and in a tie for eighth with a 156 total.
Amanda Hall shot back-to-back rounds of 81 and is tied for 15th with a 162 total. Malika Allie posted rounds of 81 and 82 and is one stroke back of Hall in a tie for 19th at 163. Rachel Reiling is tied for 21st with rounds of 86 and 80 for a 186 total, while Allea Hawkins is tied for 24th with a 168 total after shooting back-to-back rounds of 84.
Tiffany Chan opened with rounds of 70 and 69 to take the overnight lead with a 139 total.
