Upstate Heads to Sunshine State to Face North Florida, Jacksonville

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend as the Spartans travel to Florida to face North Florida on Saturday and Jacksonville on Monday. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. while Monday's contest begins at 7 p.m.

Upstate is 9-15 overall and 2-7 in the ASUN Conference following an 89-75 victory over Lipscomb on Wednesday. Tamera Thorpe scored a game-high 23 points while Vanessa Agrusa tied her career-high with 21 points. Raven Jefferson finished in double figures for the 12th consecutive game as she scored 17 points. Thorpe and Agrusa are the first Spartans to finish with 20 or more points in the same game since Brittany Starling and Brittany Clency scored 26 points and 20 points at Morehead State on Dec. 14, 2015.

Jefferson ranks third in the ASUN with 14.9 points per game and is also third in the league with 48 steals. As a team, Upstate leads the conference with 9.9 steals per game and takes a league-high 62.9 field goal attempts. Upstate has been called for an average of 15.3 fouls per game, which is the lowest in the ASUN.

North Florida is 8-16 and 1-8 following a 69-46 loss at FGCU on Thursday. Tesh Hanson leads the Ospreys with 11.6 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. Claire Ioannidis is fourth in the league with 52 3-pointers and is second with a 92.5 free throw shooting percentage.

Jacksonville is 17-7 and 6-3 after a 57-47 overtime loss at Stetson. Sherranda Reddick leads the league with 17.2 points per game with Brandi Buie's 13.3 points per game ranking fifth-best in the league. Kayla Gordon leads the conference with 9.2 rebounds per game.

Upstate leads the all-time series with North Florida 17-14 but trails Jacksonville 10-9. The Spartans will look to even the season series following a 78-67 loss to North Florida and a 65-47 defeat to Jacksonville.
